Kapil Nirmal: I don’t think television reflects societal norms or vice versa

Actor Kapil Nirmal, who is known for TV shows like Raja ki Aayegi Baraat, Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki and Ek Veer Ki Ardaas…Veera, Baal Shiv as well as the film Vedaa, says that TV does not reflect society in anyway. He adds that what is shown on TV is a highly dramatized version of reality.

“I don’t think television reflects societal norms or vice versa. Daily soap’s purpose is to cater to a part of society, which sometimes identifies with the stories told. As if now, my shows are things of the past. Most of the incidents are a dramatised version of what may have happened somewhere, sometimes far-fetched, too much stretched,” he says.

He adds, “I don’t think my shows influence people. The character you play may attract the attention of viewers because of some personality traits, looks, or dialect. Shows are more about characters and their chemistry.”

Ask him what he thinks is better on TV – short and impactful characters, or long term characters adding just a little bit of value, and he says, “That’s subjective. If you want to earn more and want to stabilize your economic scenario, long ones will do wonders. If you don’t have time and want to earn quick money short ones will do the magic.
